Southfields is a district in the London borough of Wandsworth and until the 19th century, the area of Southfields was still just fields that were located between the areas of Wimbledon and Putney. When the District & London & South Western Railway from Wimbledon to Putney Bridge opened in June 1889, the area of Southfields started to take off with the first school opening a year later on Merton Road, another of the main thoroughfares that were formerly paths through fields.
The area of Southfields, like others around it, has undergone significant change in the last few decades, with house prices rising accordingly as the demand to live in this area has increased significantly. The main residential areas of Southfields are the “Southfields Triangle” and “The Grid”.
Public transport in Southfields has put the area on the map as the Southfields stop is the main London Underground station for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

‘Ideal for Wimbledon’
“As we were attending the tennis at Wimbledon, the Lodge is ideal being only one train stop away from the station at Southfields. This is the second time we have stayed and would definitely recommend it for visiting the tennis or going into London Victoria on the train.”
